WEDDING - RELATED TERMS on GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS AND CHURCH REQUIREMENTS
Community Tax Certificate a.ka. Cedula - a document prepared, issued, and paid in barangay, city, or municipal office. Barangay Certificate - a certification or confirmation that you are a resident of the Barangay

Certificate of No Marriage a.k.a. Cenomar - It is a certification issued by the National Statistics Office (NSO) stating that a person has not contracted marriage. It is only essential if you want to be certain that the civil status of the person you are marrying is still single and that he or she is unattached. This may be important since any marriage contracted while another one is still subsisting is considered as null and void under Article 35 (4) of the Family Code of the Philippines for being bigamous. Moreover, bigamy (the contracting of a second or subsequent marriage before the former marriage has been legally dissolved, or before the absent spouse has been declared presumptively dead by means of a judgment rendered in the proper proceedings) is also punishable as a crime under Article 349 of the Revised Penal Code. So if you have doubts regarding the civil status of your future spouse, it might be a good idea to procure a CENOMA. This should be NSO Certified.
Marriage License - is a document issued, either by a church or state authority, authorizing a couple to marry. To be submitted to your Church Venue atleast 1 week before the wedding.
Baptismal Certificate - is an important aspect of the Baptism Celebration. It serves many purposes, not the least of which is to remind the Baptismal Candidate of the act of obedience they participated in, when and where it took place, and perhaps who was there. This should be derived atleast 3 months before the wedding with annotation "For Marriage Purposes ony".
Confirmation Certificate - Older Catholics remember Confirmation as the moment when their identity was changed: They "received the Holy Spirit" and became "soldiers of Christ." Today Confirmation is often defined as a sacrament of mature Christian commitment. It is the occasion when young people baptized as infants put their "personal signature" on their parents' decision. Certificate of Confirmation is given once a child is confirmed by the Church where the Confirmation took place. This should also be derived atleast 3 months before the wedding with annotation "For Marriage Purposes ony"
Canonical Interview with the Parish Priest - Interview of the Bride & the Groom with the Parish Priest. It begins with the process of documentation including the setting of the date and time of the wedding celebration. The priest normally ask the engaged couple on their purpose of marriage and plans about the future. The interview is preferred to be held during office hours. If one of the parties has been married before, this will require further consultation. Couples in this circumstance should contact the church at least a year before the proposed wedding. Such interview normally takes place a month before the wedding.
Pre-Cana Seminar - a Catholic course on marriage. Engaged couples need to take part in the course before they can be married in the Catholic Church. Pre-Cana is mandatory because marriage is taken very seriously in Catholicism. The course might be a day, a weekend or even a month. There are different organizations holding this seminar aside from your Parish Church such as Discovery Weekend, Marriage Encounter . . .
Certificate of Attendance on Marriage Counseling - a pre-marital counseling and family planning seminar conducted by the Division of Maternal and Child Health at the Municipal/City Hall in the same municipality or city where the contracting parties applied for the marriage license which is designed to help couples build strong foundations for their relationship. At the completion of the seminar the Center provides a certificate of attendance.
Parish Permit - a permit accomplished from the parish of the Bride to be presented to the parish office where the ceremony will take place. Form will be provided by the parish office where the wedding will be held.
Wedding Banns/ Banns of Marriage - These will be provided during the canonical interview and have to be immediately brought to the respective parishes of the bride and thegroom for posting. These are the public announcement in a parish church that a marriage is going to take place between two specified persons. The purpose of banns is to enable anyone to raise any legal impediment to it, so as to prevent marriages that are legally invalid, either under canon law or under civil law. Impediments vary between legal jurisdictions, but would normally include a pre-existing marriage (having been neither dissolved nor annulled), a vow of celibacy, lack of consent, or the couple's being related within the prohibited degrees of kinship.
Marriage Certificate - is the official record that two people have undertaken a marriage ceremony. In some other jurisdictions, a marriage license serves a dual purpose of granting permission for a marriage to take place and then recording the fact that it has done so. This can be claimed after the wedding.
